Colombian, Sri Lanka, and Bankok Shipments
Hey folks, summer is in full swing and I hope it's not as hot for you as it is here. We've been setting record high temps so far and I think I speak for all of Florida when I say we're ready for some record lows. You know it's bad when people who have spent their entire lives here are saying they're ready to move lol. But scorching weather not withstanding we still managed to get quite bit of great looking fish this week. Thankfully most of these are from tropical zones and don't mind hundred degree afternoons. Got in all the usual suspects including Bangkok, Sri Lanka and Colombia. Plus as always lots of great Florida raised fish.
Got restocks on some much needed Colombia staples including Rubber Plecos, Farlowellas, Fourline Pims, Colombian Sharks and Otos. For new(ish) stuff we got in Ossa Knives for the first time in ages. Probably the coolest Knife we see coming out of South America and that includes Black Ghosts. Albeit rather sedentary behavior wise they're very unique and not all that common. We also got in Green Neon Tetras but act fast as these are always gone in the blink of an eye. And speaking of fish that disappear in a hurry we got a super limited number of Peacock in. Like literally two or three pieces. They're around 4-5" so call your rep before your done reading this sentence if you want one.
Far east imports brought in some fun surprises like always including Marble Moray Eels. I think a better suited name for these would be Goldflake Moray Eel seeing how they really aren't marbled but rather have more of a gold dusting to them. Or that could also be a more marketable name, Gold Dust Eel. Either way they're really attractive and typically do well so long as you throw some salt on them. Also Eel-like are the Delhezi Bichirs. One of the most popular "Dinosaur Eels" these guys have the best pattern you can get without breaking the bank. Also in from the far east are farm raised Redtail Cats. While not appropriate for most home aquariums these beasts do well in indoor ponds. Great personalities and will even learn to take food right out of your hand. And while I didn't have time to take a pic we did get in a very small handful of some Archers. One of my absolute favorite display fish of all time this is one of the brackish species so they require a bit of salt in their water.
In Florida raised fish we got in some old school favorites just like last week. My personal fave are the Curviceps. While relatively subtle in overall coloration these guys present themselves with a modest beauty with fantastic markings in the fins. Also in the old school category are the original Blue Acaras. If remember seeing these in pet stores then you're just like me, old lol. These grow up to be absolute gems. Literally since these guys look like they actually sparkle underwater. Don't get them confused with their cousins Green Terrors. They may be in the same genus but they are nothing alike. These stay relatively small with a docile temperament. Along with both of these we also got in some outstanding looking 3" Heckelii. Both color and size are great on these. We are also expecting 4" & 5" later today but they will be very limited so be sure to check with your rep.
August is almost here and that means SuperZoo is right around the corner. Been mentioning this for weeks now so if you haven't already booked your trip you're running out of time. If you've never attended I highly recommend checking it out. Vendors and manufacturers from all over the globe showing off the newest products and latest innovations in sales and marketing. Lots of great workshops and guest speakers worth attending. We'll be there with plenty of great fish on display so be sure to stop by and say hello. Hope to see you there!
Reach out to your rep if you have any questions.

New Silver Arowanas came in as fat and happy as ever. For whatever reason these have been flying out here so order early if you want any. |
Brown Ghost Knives keep coming in strong. We actually have pretty good stock on these so be sure to check with your rep about special pricing on them. |
Flagtail Prochilodus got a restock this week and already showing nice color. |
Ossa Knives are probably one of the most attractively marked species in their genus. Just be warned during the day they do spend the majority of their time laying flat on the bottom. |
World's most prehistoric lookin freshwater fish. Dragon Gobies used to be super common but this is the first time we've been able to get them in over a year. |
New Tiger Shovelnose Cats are slightly smaller than the last batch but are still sporting great patterns. |
Chili Oscars are almost becoming a staple item here and it's obvious as to why. While I have professed my preference for the natural wild types one cannot argue that for an aquarium strain these are absolutely stunning. |
Can't go a week without mentioning Flowerhorns but goes without saying that regardless about how you feel about these guys they are super attractive and sell out every single week. And while they certainly don't play well with others they most likely won't be around ling enough for that to be a problem. |
Platinum Parrots got a restock this week and pair well with both the Blood and Blue Tigers that ae goin last week. Makes for a handsome trio lol. |
Kribensis keep coming in at a pretty decent size to point where males and females are already starting to show their respective colors. Another common staple that always flies out the door. |
Redtail Cat |
Zebra Loaches also saw a restock this week. Not only are they great at eliminating nuisance snails they make for great scavengers in both South American and Afrin Cichlid tanks. They tolerate a wide range of water parameters making them highly versatile. |
Delhezi Bichirs are back after a brief hiatus. Their saddled pattern really helps them standout making them one the most attractive of the affordable Polypterus species. |
Marble Moray Eels are back this week. These are not a true freshwater and benefit from a bit of salt in their water. Start off by feeding them live ghost shrimp. They readily accept these and can eventually be converted to frozen faire. |
Black Ruby running arbs vary from batch to batch but like most Florida raised fish they mostly tend to be on the bigger side. There's even some huge males in the mix as seen in the pic above. They're not all this big but there are quite a few ready to color up. |
Longfin Rosy Barbs have exceptional fins with nice solid color. Male/female ratio is about 50/50. |
The current batch of Rasbora "Hets" are mostly Espei. Most people don't care either way but just in case you or your customers do this is what's shipping out this week. Really nice fish either way. |
2" Redtail Sharks are slowly coming back in to the mix after a brief absence. Hope this is a trend we'll see continue as the year moves on. |
Moonlight Gouramis are available once again. Might be the prettiest silver fish money can buy. |
When in color Gold Honey Gouramis could very well be the best looking dwarf species out there. Both males and females look great with the males developing black on their chest when courting. |
Assorted large Angels not only sell well on their own merit help to sell all other size angels you may carry. |

Got a small handful of Peruvian Blues still hanging around and they are one of the best looking Tetras here hands down. They're huge and absolutely stunning. These are twice the size of the Indo imports we typically get and will probably be the last ones for a while so don't miss out. |
Von Rios Continue to come in at a solid size with strong color. It's dealer's choice but when push comes to shove I prefer these over the "Orange" strain any day of the week. |
Can never go wrong with Blue Kerris. Great color and not found in big box stores. However I think Purple Kerri is a more accurate name given their hue as adults. |
Red Phantoms are about as big and as nice as you're going to see outside of a private collection. These usually come in relatively small and faded but that's not the case here. Keep in mind they are a smaller sized Tetra as adults but nonetheless these are some of the nicest to come through here. |
Lemons are now coming in as Florida raised and it shows. Considerably larger than the imports and showing excellent color already. These will only get better with time. |
Central/South American Cichlids |
Curviceps are back for the first time in a couple months and as usual they do not disappoint. One of the beefier dwarf Cichlids these guys have some amazing patterning in the fins. Plus it's an old school favorite and your die hard hobbyists will appreciate these. |
And speaking of old school we got in some "original" Blue Acaras. This is how they appear in nature as opposed to their "Electric" counterparts. Again your seasoned Cichlid enthusiasts will really dig these. |
Chocolates are due in later today and I know Brody is just giddy with glee as these are about as brown of a Cichlid as they come lol. I will admit that these are rather impressive as adults and always sell out surprisingly fast. |
Red Spot Turquoise Severums are starting to show why they deserve that name. as far as the "Green" types go these grow up to be one of the most impressive variants and they won't break they bank price point wise. |
And speaking of Red Spots...I know I can barely go much more than a week without featuring these but for good reason, they're awesome. This is definitely one example of a home grown fish that truly out does the far east versions. |
3" Heckelii are not only on point as far as size is concerned but also for color. The reflective iridescence on these is insane and they still have a ton of growing to do. |
Large/4" EB Carpinits continue to be one of the best looking Central/Southies on the farm. One of if not the best strains on these we get them from a local vendor and if they look this good now just imagine what they'll look like as adults. |
Regular size Jacks have been available with a fair amount of consistency as of late. We also have them in a medium size but not sure how long that will last so I would recommend stocking up on both. |
While they have been a staple item as far as African Cichlids are concerned I still feel like the Albino Zebras don't quite get the love they deserve. Pearl white with a blue, almost iridescent sheen over then with what will become bright orange/red fiinage makes them one of the more impressive Mbuna types. |
If you're new to carrying African Cichlids or just can't decide on what to bring in you can never go wrong with the Fancy Mix. Two different sizes available and they'll set you apart from the competition as these have some truly unique hybrids mixed in that you won't see anywhere else. |
Regular Red Fin Borleyi are back this week and while there is a bit of variation in size the color outstanding. Super bright fins and easily one of the best selling juvenile Haps. |
Everyone has their opinion on juiced Peacocks coming in from the far east (I know I certainly do) however if you're looking for an immediate splash of color for a minimal amount of cash it's hard to out do these. Great variety in the mix as well. |
But if you're looking for something au naturale look no further than the Florida raised assorted male Peacocks. Always a great mix of both pure strains and hybrids. Arguably the best color you can get for the money. |
And if you really want to up the anty as far as color is concerned then look no further than the Albino Red Peacocks. This is a fantastic version of this species and they're not even in full color yet. Makes for a great center piece in a display. |
