Hey folks,
Summer is in full swing and I hope it's not as hot for you as it is here. We've been setting record high temps so far and I think I speak for all of Florida when I say we're ready for some record lows. You know it's bad when people who have spent their entire lives here are saying they're ready to move lol. But scorching weather not withstanding we still managed to get quite bit of great looking fish this week. Thankfully most of these are from tropical zones and don't mind hundred degree afternoons. Got in all the usual suspects including Bangkok, Sri Lanka and Colombia. Plus as always lots of great Florida raised fish.
Got restocks on some much needed Colombia staples including Rubber Plecos, Farlowellas, Fourline Pims, Colombian Sharks and Otos. For new(ish) stuff we got in Ossa Knives for the first time in ages. Probably the coolest Knife we see coming out of South America and that includes Black Ghosts. Albeit rather sedentary behavior wise they're very unique and not all that common. We also got in Green Neon Tetras but act fast as these are always gone in the blink of an eye. And speaking of fish that disappear in a hurry we got a super limited number of Peacock in. Like literally two or three pieces. They're around 4-5" so call your rep before your done reading this sentence if you want one.
Far east imports brought in some fun surprises like always including Marble Moray Eels. I think a better suited name for these would be Goldflake Moray Eel seeing how they really aren't marbled but rather have more of a gold dusting to them. Or that could also be a more marketable name, Gold Dust Eel. Either way they're really attractive and typically do well so long as you throw some salt on them. Also Eel-like are the Delhezi Bichirs. One of the most popular "Dinosaur Eels" these guys have the best pattern you can get without breaking the bank. Also in from the far east are farm raised Redtail Cats. While not appropriate for most home aquariums these beasts do well in indoor ponds. Great personalities and will even learn to take food right out of your hand. And while I didn't have time to take a pic we did get in a very small handful of some Archers. One of my absolute favorite display fish of all time this is one of the brackish species so they require a bit of salt in their water.
In Florida raised fish we got in some old school favorites just like last week. My personal fave are the Curviceps. While relatively subtle in overall coloration these guys present themselves with a modest beauty with fantastic markings in the fins. Also in the old school category are the original Blue Acaras. If remember seeing these in pet stores then you're just like me, old lol. These grow up to be absolute gems. Literally since these guys look like they actually sparkle underwater. Don't get them confused with their cousins Green Terrors. They may be in the same genus but they are nothing alike. These stay relatively small with a docile temperament. Along with both of these we also got in some outstanding looking 3" Heckelii. Both color and size are great on these. We are also expecting 4" & 5" later today but they will be very limited so be sure to check with your rep.
August is almost here and that means SuperZoo is right around the corner. Been mentioning this for weeks now so if you haven't already booked your trip you're running out of time. If you've never attended I highly recommend checking it out. Vendors and manufacturers from all over the globe showing off the newest products and latest innovations in sales and marketing. Lots of great workshops and guest speakers worth attending. We'll be there with plenty of great fish on display so be sure to stop by and say hello. Hope to see you there!
Reach out to your rep if you have any questions.

New Silver Arowanas came in as fat and happy as ever. For whatever reason these have been flying out here so order early if you want any. |
Brown Ghost Knives keep coming in strong. We actually have pretty good stock on these so be sure to check with your rep about special pricing on them. |
Flagtail Prochilodus got a restock this week and already showing nice color. |
Ossa Knives are probably one of the most attractively marked species in their genus. Just be warned during the day they do spend the majority of their time laying flat on the bottom. |
World's most prehistoric lookin freshwater fish. Dragon Gobies used to be super common but this is the first time we've been able to get them in over a year. |
New Tiger Shovelnose Cats are slightly smaller than the last batch but are still sporting great patterns. |
Chili Oscars are almost becoming a staple item here and it's obvious as to why. While I have professed my preference for the natural wild types one cannot argue that for an aquarium strain these are absolutely stunning. |
Can't go a week without mentioning Flowerhorns but goes without saying that regardless about how you feel about these guys they are super attractive and sell out every single week. And while they certainly don't play well with others they most likely won't be around ling enough for that to be a problem. |
Kribensis keep coming in at a pretty decent size to point where males and females are already starting to show their respective colors. Another common staple that always flies out the door. |
Leopard Ctenapoma AKA "African Leaf Fish" are one of the less expensive oddballs that you can even find in the box chain stores. People love these things, and they make a great impulse-buy when looking for something unique that won't break the bank. Every store should stock a few. |
Redtail Cats came in again, solidly in the listed 2-3 inch description, very consistent sizing at about 2.5 inches each. |
Yo Yo Loaches are back and not tiny this week. These are probably the most popular of all the botia type loaches, due to their very low price point. Personally, I think it's worth the extra to get Zebra Botias instead, they're always larger and look great. Pictured below. |
Zebra Loaches also saw a restock this week. Not only are they great at eliminating nuisance snails they make for great scavengers in both South American and Afrin Cichlid tanks. They tolerate a wide range of water parameters making them highly versatile. |
Delhezi Bichirs are back after a brief hiatus. Their saddled pattern really helps them standout making them one the most attractive of the affordable Polypterus species |
Marble Moray Eels are back this week. These are not a true freshwater and benefit from a bit of salt in their water. Start off by feeding them live ghost shrimp. They readily accept these and can eventually be converted to frozen faire |
Still have some large assorted male rainbows. This Goyder River in the mix really stands out with the bright red coloration you virtually never see on them when they're sold at the medium size. |
Regular sized Bosemanis got restocked, and look great even for a regular. Plenty of color in the males showing tons of bright red/orange already. The blue front halves will become more pronounced as they mature. |
Black Ruby running arbs vary from batch to batch but like most Florida raised fish they mostly tend to be on the bigger side. There's even some huge males in the mix as seen in the pic above. They're not all this big but there are quite a few ready to color up. |
Assorted large Angels not only sell well on their own merit help to sell all other size angels you may carry. |
2" Redtail Sharks are slowly coming back in to the mix after a brief absence. Hope this is a trend we'll see continue as the year moves on. |
5" Albino Rainbow Shark |
Got a small handful of Peruvian Blues still hanging around and they are one of the best looking Tetras here hands down. They're huge and absolutely stunning. These are twice the size of the Indo imports we typically get and will probably be the last ones for a while so don't miss out. |
Von Rios Continue to come in at a solid size with strong color. It's dealer's choice but when push comes to shove I prefer these over the "Orange" strain any day of the week. |
Can never go wrong with Blue Kerris. Great color and not found in big box stores. However I think Purple Kerri is a more accurate name given their hue as adults. |
Redtail Hemiodus are back in stock from Colombia! A very, very cool schooling peaceful fish that has a lot more size to them than your typical tetra. These make a great option for people with a larger tank looking for a group of something that's not your typical community fish. |
Red Eye Tetras are coming in most days, and running a solid average size. We do get restocks daily from local breeders on a lot of bread and butter stuff like this, so we may be out on Tuesday and get them back on Wednesday, but it's always worth putting on your order. |
Gold Pristellas are plentiful and looking great. The red they keep in the tail fin makes them look much more interesting than your typical albino tetra. |

3" Heckelii are not only on point as far as size is concerned but also for color. The reflective iridescence on these is insane and they still have a ton of growing to do. |
Red Spot Turquoise Severums are starting to show why they deserve that name. as far as the "Green" types go these grow up to be one of the most impressive variants and they won't break they bank price point wise. |
Chocolate Cichlids ran out last week but we got more in, and the new batch is slightly larger too! Already starting to show some of their neat looking adult patterning, and the color will be coming in on males in the next few months as they grow. |
Large/4" EB Carpinits continue to be one of the best looking Central/Southies on the farm. One of if not the best strains on these we get them from a local vendor and if they look this good now just imagine what they'll look like as adults. |
4 Inch EB Acaras are excellent as always. This is always one of the best options for getting the most color for the money. At this size I would call them Semi-Aggressive, they will eat Neon Tetras or guppies you house them with, but pretty much leave other non-tetras alone. |
Salvinis are back in stock from the breeder locally that has the much better locality strain on these. I love the red patch they get in the belly and the super bright yellow. No ugly brown salvinis here! |
While they have been a staple item as far as African Cichlids are concerned I still feel like the Albino Zebras don't quite get the love they deserve. Pearl white with a blue, almost iridescent sheen over then with what will become bright orange/red fiinage makes them one of the more impressive Mbuna types. |
If you're new to carrying African Cichlids or just can't decide on what to bring in you can never go wrong with the Fancy Mix. Two different sizes available and they'll set you apart from the competition as these have some truly unique hybrids mixed in that you won't see anywhere else. |
Regular Red Fin Borleyi are back this week and while there is a bit of variation in size the color outstanding. Super bright fins and easily one of the best selling juvenile Haps. |
Rock Kribensis are back, at regular size this time so a little more wallet friendly than the mediums. This Victorian is pretty aggressive to each other like most Victorians, and the females show a nice gold color which makes them a better looking mixed sex display than Nyereri, for example. |
Assorted Medium haps have some peacocks in it this week, I doubt anyone will complain though. Those are peacocks a local breeder sent us we were supposed to be selling for $20, but due to the smaller size, we're just throwing them in this hap mix and calling it a day for whoever gets lucky enough to grab them. Also have plenty of beautiful male Victorians in the mix, and a few larger types as well. |
OB Tequila Sunrise we mistakingly had labeled as Large on the list last week, they're actually mediums, so they had a bit of a price drop as a result. Still one of the pricier cichlids we have at the moment, but that's because they're one of the best looking and newest strains. |
Sterbai Cory, tank raised and the sturdiest cory species we carry normally. I see DOA claims on these less than any other type, and they always look great and active while they're here. |
Skunk Cory, available by the thousands this week! We should have plenty of everyone all the way through Thursday pack. |
Punctatus Cory are by far the largest this week, if you're looking for a good size go with these. |
Julii Cory are tank raised as always, and smaller than the Sterbai, but cost less as well. An industry staple for a good reason. |
Venezuelan Orange Cory are newish and proving to be very popular. These are also tank-raised overseas and seem to hold up quite well for almost everybody! |
